Springdale’s NE and SS programmes are designed to develop citizens with a strong sense of identity, belonging, and purpose. Students cultivate the citizenship dispositions of:
Sense of belonging – understanding their role and responsibility within the school, community, and nation.
Sense of reality – recognising social, cultural, and historical contexts that shape their world.
Sense of hope - imagining better futures and understanding how individuals can contribute to positive change.
The will to act – being empowered to contribute positively and effect change.
Our NE programmes—such as NE commemorative days, learning journeys, class discussions on current affairs and classroom-based experiences—aim to strengthen the four key Citizenship Dispositions.
Social Studies develops students’ understanding of the world they live in and their roles as members of society. Using an inquiry-based approach, students explore real-world issues, appreciate diverse viewpoints and deepen their understanding of how individuals and communities can work together for the common good.
In addition, students develop 21st Century Competencies such as civic literacy, global awareness, and cross-cultural understanding, enabling them to navigate a complex and interconnected world with compassion and responsibility. Through NE and SS, students learn to appreciate Singapore’s heritage, understand contemporary societal issues, and actively participate as informed, compassionate citizens.
